Back in 2018, Kenney announced plans to bring the restaurant to Philadelphia, plus other places like Brooklyn, Boston, and Los Angeles; ultimately, however, those locations never materialized. The James Beard-nominated chef and cookbook author previously opened several meat- and dairy-free restaurants across the globe.

The brand has gone through several changes recently. In early 2025, Double Zero and Bar Verde merged into one restaurant called PlantMade, which offered a combination menu of vegan pizzas and Mexican fare. Earlier this year, Kennedy rejoined the team as consulting chef and flipped Double Zero back to its original form and name in the space next door to the Second Avenue original. (Its very first name, 00 + Co., confused customers and was quickly changed.) 65 Second Avenue, at Fourth Street

Union Square: Max Brenner, the whimsical chocolatier that commanded long lines in its early days, closed on Saturday, August 29, after 20 years of catering to the touristy Times Square crowd. Built as a restaurant, chocolate retailer, and interactive dessert bar all in one, Max Brenner served crepes, choctails, pizza topped with chocolate chunks, sweet waffles, and decadent fondue. A Reddit user who flagged the closure noted a post-COVID slump in sales under new ownership. 841 Broadway, between East 13th and 14th streets

West Village: Korean chef Jihan Lee’s TBD Gimbap held its last week of service in late August. TBD, as its name suggested, was technically always meant to be a pop-up (Lee previously told Eater it’d be open until at least May; it ended up lasting six months).
