An MTA track worker was struck and killed by an oncoming train in the Bronx late Thursday night, according to the MTA and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 100.<\/p>\n

An MTA<\/a> track worker was struck and killed by an oncoming train in the Bronx<\/a> late Thursday night, according to the MTA and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 100<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The worker, whom the MTA identified as Moet McCullum, was placing flags along the tracks of the D line at the 161 St-Yankee Stadium station when she was struck by the train and dragged, according to The City Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

MTA NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow, in a statement, said \u201cthis is a difficult day\u201d following the incident.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cLast night, we tragically lost a member of our MTA family,\u201d he said. \u201cThis morning, I was at the hospital, at the scene, and I met with her family. I have also spoken with Chair Lieber and TWU Local 100 President John Chiarello \u2014 all of us are heartbroken. I ask that we all keep Ms. McCullum and her family in our thoughts and prayers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crichlow said the incident is \u201cunder investigation.\u201d The City Reporter indicated this was the first death of an MTA track worker in three years.\n<\/p>\n

According to TWU Local 100 President John Chiarello, McCullum was a mother of three who had just been at the start of a career with the MTA.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThe actions that led to this sudden and awful occurrence are still being determined, so we cannot speculate on the details,\u201d Chiarello said in a statement. \u201cThe NTSB has reached out to me and we will work in conjunction with them, the Track Safety Task Force and the TWU Local 100 Safety Team to piece together what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

The TWU Local 100 is expected to provide further details at a press conference Friday afternoon.\n<\/p>\n
