The son of a popular Jamaican dancehall DJ was fatally stabbed<\/a> during a routine trip to the laundromat in Brooklyn \u2014 and now his devastated dad says he\u2019s waiting to look the cowardly killers in their face.<\/p>\n

Employees at the Lin Sunshine Laundromat<\/a> in East Flatbush said Christopher Davey, 25, dropped off two bags of clothes there around 5:15 p.m. on Friday, and said he would be back shortly with two more bags to drop at the laundromat, near Church Ave. and E. 42nd St., but never returned.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis mother gave him laundry,\u201d said the victim\u2019s grandmother, who didn\u2019t want to be named. \u201cShe sent him to the laundromat. He drops it off. He left (to bring it) around 5:30 and she never heard until after 8. They called her, she was here and just leaving for work and the detectives came.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davey left the cleaners, then walked up the block on Albany Ave. near Linden Blvd., where he was knifed twice in the torso around 5:30 p.m. a few doors away from East Flatbush Ascend Charter Elementary School<\/a>, cops said.<\/p>\n

Medics rushed the gravely wounded young man to Kings County Hospital, where he died.<\/p>\n

Davey lived about three blocks away from where he was stabbed.<\/p>\n

The victim\u2019s father, Michael Davey<\/a>, 53, is a famous former Jamaican dancehall DJ known as Powerman, who had a string of hits in the 1990s. He now works as a nurse at Maimonides Hospital. The former vocal artist said he has seen young guys around the laundromat who look like they are trying to pick a fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went to that laundromat before and I see tough kids in their 20s coming up to me and screwing up their face like they want me to say something so they can jump off,\u201d Michael Davey said. \u201cBut because I\u2019m grown, I just don\u2019t look at them.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the victim\u2019s two bags of laundry were still sitting in the back of the laundromat unwashed because the workers were never able to give him a ticket for them.<\/p>\n

No arrests have been made. Police are looking for two men who were spotted fleeing the scene in a black sedan.<\/p>\n

The victim\u2019s father said his son\u2019s death is \u201creally hard.\u201d He remains hopeful police will catch the suspects since detectives told him they have surveillance footage of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have every single person on camera,\u201d Michael Davey said. \u201cThey have everything, so they\u2019re gonna find them. I\u2019m just gonna trust the law now. And just wait on their results. It was two boys stabbing him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, I just want to see them first to see what they look like. I want them to know that they did something bad,\u201d he said. \u201cThey must have known that he would have died. He got multiple stabs. This man was going to the laundry. The laundry bags are still there. He wasn\u2019t going to look for trouble to nobody.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michael said the last time he spoke with his son was last week, as he was working on getting him a job with a local pastor who owns a restaurant. But his son declined the job since it was only two days a week.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe refused and say he don\u2019t want that,\u201d the father said. \u201cSo I tell him, \u2018Well, if you don\u2019t want that, that mean you don\u2019t want to work. You just want me to giving you money every day, every day, and it can\u2019t work. And I\u2019m not going to talk to you no more.\u2019 And I hung up my phone, and I wasn\u2019t taking his call. He was just texting me all kind of things. And now I feel so guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michael Davey noted that Christopher struggled with coping with the death of his half-brother Alonzo Edwards in May 2025, who he was close to.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he smoked the weed because after his big brother died, he took it hard,\u201d the father said.<\/p>\n

Christopher Davey became passionate about cooking and expressed interest in wanting to open up a Jamaican restaurant, his father said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery day he would send pictures with him cooking,\u201d Michael Davey said. \u201cEvery day he said, \u2018Dad, want to start our own restaurant?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Yes, son, you\u2019re gonna start it.\u2019 He wanted to open a Jamaican restaurant, soul food. That was his dream. Every time he cooked something, he would send a picture to me. He would make fried chicken, and he\u2019d do macaroni and cheese.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Jamaican dancehall \u201ctoaster\u201d said he had been working at getting his family out of Brooklyn \u2014 but that, like everything, relocating \u201ctakes money.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBrooklyn is a very rough place,\u201d he said. \u201cThey say Jamaica is bad, right? But Jamaica runs on that respect. Like you could go in some of the toughest areas or the roughest areas, and the baddest guys will say, \u2018Good morning.\u2019 Respect. In America, it\u2019s not like that. When you look at the young kid, they just look ignorant and mad.
