The New York Mets are currently taking on the San Francisco Giants in a weekend series (at home).

On Friday, the Mets won the series opener with an offensive outpouring, and New York will go for the series win on Saturday afternoon.

Mets infielder Mark Vientos had a solid night at the plate on Friday, and before the game on Saturday, a lineup decision was revealed regarding Vientos.

Just one day after batting cleanup for the New York Mets (and hitting a home run in the process), Mark Vientos is OUT of the Mets batting order on 9/5.

Here is the full order, per @UnderdogMLB:

Mets 9/5: “F. Lindor SS J. Soto LF B. Bichette DH C. Benge RF J. Young 1B M. Semien 2B A. Ewing CF F. Alvarez C B. Baty 3B Z. Thornton SP”

Mets 9/5

J. Soto LF

B. Bichette DH

C. Benge RF

J. Young 1B

M. Semien 2B

A. Ewing CF

F. Alvarez C

B. Baty 3B

Z. Thornton SP

Some other lineup changes include Bo Bichette being the DH, and Brett Baty batting last and playing third.

While the Mets may be out of playoff contention, the rest of the season is a chance for young players to step up and make a name for themselves heading into next season. Mark Vientos is one of those fringe players who is trying to earn a starting spot in 2027 (if he’s not traded).

Taking a Quick Look at Mark Vientos This Season"NewGettyNEW YORK, NEW YORK – MAY 15: Mark Vientos #27 of the New York Mets runs to first base during the eighth inning against the New York Yankees at Citi Field on May 15, 2026 in the Queens borough of New York City. Mark Vientos has battled some injuries this season, which had led to him appearing in just 77 games.

In that sample size, he’s batting .219 with a bWAR of -1.o, 13 home runs, nine doubles, and 54 total hits.

Vientos is very much a two-outcome type of hitter. He either hits an extra-base hit or strikes out.

His power output is fairly strong this season, but in the 77 games he’s appeared in (247 at-bats), Vientos has struck out 25% of the time.
