Nearly 25 years to the day since the Sept. 11th, 2001 terror attacks in Lower Manhattan, another veteran of New York’s Bravest has succumbed to World Trade Center-related illnesses, the New York City Fire Dept. confirmed late Saturday.<\/p>\n

An online obituary says Jerry Reilly, 75, a former FDNY lieutenant, died on Sept. 3, one day and one week before the tragic milestone.<\/p>\n

“He will be remembered not only for his commitment and courage as a firefighter, but also for the kindness, strength, humor, and love he brought to his family and those around him,” the obituary posted by Joseph W. Sorce funeral home reads in part<\/a>. “His memories will remain in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.”<\/p>\n

In its fourth report on the health impacts of rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center<\/a>, published on Sept. 1, the FDNY documented 608 WTC-related deaths of active-duty and retired members of the fire service who worked at Ground Zero in the rescue and recovery efforts after the attacks.<\/p>\n

343 FDNY members died when the twin towers collapsed.<\/p>\n

As of Aug. 31, the federal government’s Victim Compensation Fund website reported that nearly 10,000 people have died from 9\/11 related illnesses<\/a>.
