Since this is the U.S. Open, it’s important to note that women have received the same prize money as men since 1973, despite the fact that they play best-of-three sets while men need to play best-of-five sets.

This year’s winners will receive $5.5 million. On average, women’s matches last 90 minutes while men’s matches last approximately three hours — twice as long! It’s incredibly grueling for a man to win seven rounds in order to win the final. The solution should be for women to play best of five, which is highly unlikely, or men to play best of three, which is also unlikely. My suggestion is for men to continue best of five but to play “no add,” which means if a game reaches deuce, the next point decides the game. This maintains the integrity of the game, but would cut the total time for a match. “No add” is played in New York public schools and implemented in many leagues as well, including the mixed doubles tournament at this year’s U.S. Open.

I strongly feel it’s a fair compromise. I’d welcome any thoughts by my fellow readers and tennis fans.

Al Musaffi

Routine development

Millburn, N.J.: The back of Sunday’s Daily News tells me that “Jets, Giants make preparations for season openers.” A caption says that Aaron Glenn and John Harbaugh will make sure their teams are ready. What amazing reporting. It’s hard to imagine the work that went into unearthing this information. I’m sure you will be justly rewarded when the Pulitzer Prizes are handed out.

Ed Marks

Union strong

Hallandale Beach, Fla.: Today we celebrate American workers, the heart and soul of our nation. Unions built the middle class, and the middle class built this country. Happy Labor Day, America.

Paul Bacon

Team spirit

North Bethesda, Md.: I was very moved by Jay Horwitz’s column on the Mets response to aid New York City and its inhabitants after 9/11 (“2001 Mets have always made good on the promise to ‘never forget,’ ” Sept. 6). That Mets team was and is a credit to their organization and the city they worked and lived in. I grew up in NYC and live in suburban Washington, D.C., and what happened that day brought me back to the city I grew up in and love. I do wish to point out, and wish the Daily News would recognize, that other NYC sports teams and organizations helped the city in the aftermath and to subsequently heal.

Eric Scheinkopf

Somber occasion

Brooklyn: I don’t think we should be calling Friday the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Anniversaries are happy occasions. I think we should be calling it the 25th “Remembrance Day.”

Anthony Maniglia

Wacky visionaries

Rego Park: If you’re going to launch a startup and find investors, you have to look the part. First, get a whacky hairdo. Think Sam Altman, Alex Karp, Samuel Bankman-Fried and Adam Neumann. You have to project the image: I’m a man of vision, a man of the future. I am Future Man. I was Bad Bunny before there was Bad Bunny. I worked counter-intelligence for Snoop Dog’s inner circle. I have an app that can tell you when you have to go to the bathroom. Make it an immersive experience. Securitize it. Tokenize it. Pitch it to Barry Diller. He’s lightyears ahead of everyone else.

Jeff Rosenblatt

Lurid scene

West Caldwell, N.J.: Re “Gruesome brawl in Brooklyn” (Sept. 4): In addition to the horrific details of the incident, did anyone else note the article’s documentation of onlookers’ depraved behavior? The quoted eyewitness referenced the detached eyeball of one of the victims, saying, “It got to the point where the cop had to cover it with a hat, because people were going crazy trying to get photos of it.” Excuse me, but where is the decency and humanity from these bloodthirsty fiends ogling and angling to get their photos, undoubtedly for posting on social media? A society so indifferent to the pain of their fellow man is doomed to the sad state of affairs we find ourselves in today, as it is sickening.

Charlie Peters

Pays for itself

Margate, Fla.: To Voicer Mary C. Noram: The U.S.-Israel alliance is a bonanza for U.S. taxpayers. According to former Supreme Commander of NATO and U.S. Secretary of State Gen. Alexander Haig, Israel is the largest U.S. aircraft carrier with no U.S. boots on board, saving the need to manufacture and deploy to the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean a few new aircraft carriers, accompanied by a few ground divisions. The production cost of one advanced aircraft carrier is $10-13 billion, and the annual cost of deploying a ground division to the Middle East is $1 billion.

Richard Sherman

Same deal

Staten Island: To Voicers Michael Ilardi and Stephen Johnson: I must agree with both of you. What I see coming is President Trump will pardon himself and his entire family just like President Joe Biden did. That is how the Trumps and Bidens get away with their wrongdoings.

Thomas Bell

Potato preference

Yonkers: Trump stated that the U.S. engagement with Iran was just small potatoes. However, depending on the palate preference of many, it’s either a meal or a mess.

Frank Brady

Choose while you can

Utica, N.Y.: This November, we’ll hopefully still have the chance to choose whether America continues down the path of Trumpism. It has become painfully and exhaustingly obvious that our current Republican-dominated government purposefully benefits only the “haves” and the “have-mores” in our country, while the rest of us are neglected and exploited. When Trump says the economy has never been better and that we’re in the “golden age” of America, he’s right. Yet, it’s golden only for him, his family and his already wealthy peers. For the rest of us, not so much. It isn’t hard to see that the people Republicans care about are doing smashingly well, while the Americans they don’t think about, except on Election Day, are struggling mightily. That dynamic is guaranteed to continue if we keep Republicans in power. If we still have the choice this Nov. 3, let’s choose Democrats!

Jeff and Joan Ganeles

Skewed sympathies

Manhattan: Let me get this straight. A GoFundMe to defray expenses for the parents of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother who strangled her three children with an exercise band, has surpassed $1 million in donations. A similar fundraiser to support NHL legend Ron “Doogie” Duguay, known in his prime as a hair-trailing heartthrob, in his battle against Stage 4 cancer is lagging, ostensibly because of his right-wing politics. Is this the level to which we’ve descended?

Susan M. Silver

Why do men play more for the same prize?
