KINGSTON, N.Y. \u2014 State Sen. Peter Oberacker has effectively been shunned by House Republicans as his campaign has seriously faltered in the race for the 19th Congressional District, according to a report from Axios.<\/a><\/p>\n

Sources told the news website that the GOP has determined that the race \u201cdoesn\u2019t warrant the investment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oberacker, \u00a0R-Schenevus, represents the 51st Senate District and is attempting to unseat U.S. Rep. Josh Riley, D-Ithaca. In February, President Donald Trump, a Republican, endorsed Obertacker,<\/a> calling him, among other things, \u201can incredible candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an email, Oberacker Campaign Manager Dain Pascocello told the Freeman that voters will have the final say. \u201cThis race isn\u2019t going to be decided in DC backrooms, it\u2019s going to be decided by the voters of NY19 \u2026\u201d the email said.<\/p>\n

Axios reported that the seat was one of the National Republican Congressional Committee\u2019s stated targets as recently as last month.<\/p>\n

But the report said that the Congressional Leadership Fund, House Republicans\u2019 main super PAC, removed all its money in the district last week, citing ad tracking firm AdImpact. The group had $4.8 million in television ad reservations supporting Oberacker, all of which were pulled on Friday, the website reported. The NRCC also removed Oberacker from its \u201cMAGA Majority\u201d list, according to Punchbowl News.<\/p>\n

The national Republican committee did not immediately respond to an email request for comment.<\/p>\n

Axios reported that Oberacker is seen by Republicans as too flawed a candidate to seriously challenge Riley.<\/p>\n

A major issue that sources told Axios is the controversy around a post Oberacker made on Facebook in 2015 praising his grandfather\u2019s military service in Nazi Germany.<\/a><\/p>\n

According to the latest filing<\/a> with the Federal Election Commission, Oberacker has raised over $1.2 million but has already spent $844,311, leaving the campaign with $392,867 cash on hand.\u00a0 The Axios report said that a concern was that the campaign has spent $350,000 on consultants.<\/p>\n

Riley, who has raised over $4.8 million, has more than $3,1 million cash on hand, according to the latest FEC filings.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"KINGSTON, N.Y. \u2014 State Sen.
