{"id":343503,"date":"2026-09-11T02:33:20","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T02:33:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/343503\/"},"modified":"2026-09-11T02:33:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T02:33:20","slug":"9-11-mourners-backed-by-tv-star-in-fight-against-mamdani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/343503\/","title":{"rendered":"9\/11 mourners backed by TV star in fight against Mamdani."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The families of 9\/11 victims opposed to Zohran Mamdani\u2019s attendance at the 25th anniversary memorial have received celebrity support.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Banging his gavel in the name of respect for the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, Adam Levy, son of world-renowned Judge Judith \u201cJudy\u201d Sheindlin, and star jurist of forthcoming CBS series \u201cAdam\u2019s Law,\u201d is unabashedly backing the throng of protestors who\u2019ve called for Mamdani\u2019s exclusion from this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/08\/us-news\/all-of-the-9-11-25th-anniversary-events-happening-in-nyc\/?utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_medium=referral\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">annual remembrance ceremony<\/a> at Ground Zero, Friday, at 8:46 a.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t show up at this memorial when you\u2019ve supported radical Islam in the past,\u201d Levy raged to The Post about Hizzoner. \u201cStand up for what you believe in. Stop talking out of both sides of your mouth.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Bronx native, who was a private-practice attorney at the time of the attack, was referring to Mamdani\u2019s controversial support of radicals with anti-American agendas, such as views shared by Aber Kawas.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Adam Levy is calling out Mayor Mamdani and Gov. Hochul in defense of grieving 9\/11 mourners ahead of the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.  Matthew McDermott for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Kawas \u2014 a DSA member and self-described \u201cMuslim civil rights advocate\u201d\u00a0who once described 9\/11 as a terror attack\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/19\/us-news\/zohran-mamdanis-endorsement-of-controversial-ny-assembly-candidate-who-minimized-9-11-draws-backlash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">that a \u201ccouple people did\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 clinched the Democratic nomination for a Queens state Senate seat\u00a0in June after Mamdani\u2019s enthusiastic support and endorsement.<\/p>\n<p>The NY District Attorney-turned-television host also blasted Mamdani\u2019s anti-Israel agenda as \u201cdisgusting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis policies are disgusting. He doesn\u2019t have any business being mayor; he should go back to being a rapper,\u201d Levy, 57, scoffed, referring to Mamdani\u2019s past profession\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/16\/us-news\/mamdani-got-a-lil-mo-money-in-rap-royalties-during-2025-mayor-run-tax-returns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">as emcee \u201cMr. Cardamom.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old democratic socialist <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/02\/us-news\/nyc-mayor-zohran-mamdani-facing-backlash-for-revoking-eric-adams-executive-orders-supporting-israel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wasted no time revoking city policies<\/a>\u00a0supporting the Jewish state and combating\u00a0hatred against Jews once he was sworn in on New Year\u2019s Day. <\/p>\n<p>The newly minted mayor spent his first day in office retracting an executive order issued by his predecessor, Eric Adams, that barred city officials from boycotting or divesting from Israel. <\/p>\n<p>He also repealed an order that adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance\u2019s definition of antisemitism, which Adams\u2019 administration said included \u201cdemonizing Israel and holding it to double standards as forms of contemporary antisemitism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the calls for his exclusion, Mamdani has not announced any plans to abstain from the 9\/11 memorial ceremony at Ground Zero. AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>A petition for Mamdani\u2019s ban from the 9\/11 tribute, launched by Giovanni Galante \u2014 whose wife, Grace, 29, was killed during the terrorist attack \u2014 cites the mayor\u2019s reluctance to condemn the phrase \u201cglobalize the intifada,\u201d and his associations with other controversial individuals like his chief counsel, Ramzi Kassem.<\/p>\n<p>Kassem previously represented <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/05\/us-news\/mamdani-gives-symbolic-9-11-pen-to-former-al-qaeda-lawyer-aide\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an al-Qaeda tanker-bombing pilot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Protesters<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/08\/us-news\/9-11-victim-families-deliver-petition-to-mamdani-at-city-hall-asking-him-to-stay-away-from-memorial-ceremonies\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> marched on City Hall <\/a>Tuesday, presenting the petition to Kassem\u2019s chief of staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor 9\/11 families, this is not simply a public ceremony \u2014 it is a deeply personal day of mourning,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/please-sign-to-support-honoring-the-memory-of-those-lost-on-september-11th-with-dignity?recruiter=2941471&amp;recruited_by_id=5fe2ac80-d704-11e5-8825-dfc44e45e1a1&amp;utm_source=share_petition&amp;utm_campaign=share_petition&amp;utm_term=psf_promote_or_share&amp;utm_medium=mobileNativeShare&amp;share_id=jN9dZP6QPh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">reads the Change.org<\/a>\u00a0call to action, with nearly 110,000 signatures (and counting). <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe presence of individuals whose words or associations are perceived as conflicting with the solemn purpose of the event risks detracting from that focus and causing additional pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grieving loved ones, including Galante, plan to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/05\/us-news\/9-11-families-plan-to-ignore-zohran-mamdani-at-nyc-ceremony\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">completely \u201cignore\u201d Mamdani<\/a>, who, despite the demands for his absence, has previously vowed to \u201cproudly honor the families, the survivors, the first responders forever impacted by that horrific terror attack by standing alongside them at this year\u2019s 9\/11 commemoration.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Terrorists attacked World Trade Center on the morning of 9\/11, claiming the lives of nearly 3,000.  AP<\/p>\n<p>Victims and mourners have vocalized their upset over Mamdani\u2019s  plans to attend the memorial Friday.  AP<\/p>\n<p>But Levy, who was a private-practice attorney at the time of the attack, said the mayor\u2019s participation in the ceremony will be solely self-serving, rather than respectful.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have such little faith in those governing New York City and New York State,\u201d Levy said, also taking aim at Gov. Kathy Hochul.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMamdani\u2019s going to do what benefits him, and Hochul is going to do what benefits her. They\u2019re both hypocrites.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Levy went on to blast Hochul, who is seeking a second full term as governor, as a \u201ccoward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s got no business running the State of New York. Zero,\u201d he seethed. \u201cDo people feel safer walking down the street or taking the subway?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey should open up mental health, psychiatric facilities in locations where these government officials live,\u201d he insisted, \u201crather than letting criminals loose into communities the politicians couldn\u2019t give a damn about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Levy blasts Mamdani, Hochul and other New York officials for dropping the ball when it comes to protecting and considering locals.  Matthew McDermott for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Levy\u2019s heart for do-the-right-thing justice, a quality he inherited from his matter-of-fact mama, Sheindlin, 83, is expressed with equal passion on his upcoming courtroom series, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/18\/lifestyle\/judge-judys-son-stars-in-new-daytime-court-show-adams-law\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">debuting Sept. 14<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>From the bench, the legal luminary presides over wild cases brought by feuding plaintiffs and defendants, including everything from remorseless romance scammers fleecing\u00a0their targets out of more than $14,000 to animal lovers defending their pet kangaroos against claims the marsupial bit a neighbor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Levy sent unfriendly fire Hochul\u2019s way over her permissive, \u201chypocritical\u201d policies. I\u2019d just arrived at my office in Putnam County, and began preparing for a trial scheduled for that day, when I saw that a plane had hit the first tower,\u201d recalled Levy. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWatching the building go up in flames, then seeing the second tower hit and the building go down. It was surreal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From that moment, he vowed to use his litigious powers to fight for what\u2019s right, remembering the innocent souls claimed by the al-Qaeda extremists.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The judge draws on his mother\u2019s influence, his education and legal prowess, as well as his own 9\/11 experiences in each of his court cases.
