The New York State Thruway Authority today announced ramps at exit 51 (Buffalo \u2013 NY Route 33 – Airport) on the Thruway (I-90) will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday,\u00a0September\u00a011, to 6 a.m. Monday,\u00a0September 14.\u00a0Traffic will\u00a0also\u00a0be reduced\u00a0from three lanes to two lanes on\u00a0the Thruway.\u00a0The temporary closures are a part of the\u00a0$64 million pavement improvement and safety enhancement project<\/a>\u00a0and will allow crews to increase the vertical clearance of the NY Route 33 overpass to mitigate future bridge strikes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday,\u00a0September 11, through 6 a.m. Monday,\u00a0September 14, the on-ramp from I-90 westbound to Rt. 33 eastbound and the exit ramp from Rt. 33 westbound to I-90 westbound will be closed.\u00a0Additionally, traffic will be reduced\u00a0to two lanes on I-90 during this time.\u00a0Detours will be posted. All work is weather dependent.\u00a0<\/p>\n Motorists are encouraged to download the\u00a0newly redesigned NYS Thruway mobile app<\/a>, available for free on\u00a0iPhone<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Android<\/a>\u00a0devices. The app provides access to real-time traffic information and live traffic cameras, service area information, toll calculator, roadside\u00a0assistance\u00a0requests and E-ZPass\u00a0and Tolls by Mail information. Motorists can also sign up for\u00a0TRANSalert<\/a>\u00a0emails, follow\u00a0@ThruwayTraffic<\/a>\u00a0on X, or visit\u00a0thruway.ny.gov<\/a>\u00a0for the latest travel information and an interactive statewide traffic map.\u00a0<\/p>\n Motorists are urged to be alert and follow the posted work zone speed limits. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Motorists should be aware of an increase in\u00a0points<\/a>\u00a0for violations of speeding in a construction zone.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n To further enhance safety for workers in a work zone, Governor Hochul signed legislation\u00a0establishing\u00a0the Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement pilot program. The safety enforcement program is in effect in various active construction zones on the Thruway. Work zones with speed camera enforcement will have clear signage leading up to the work zone. Motorists violating the posted speed limit within the work zone will be fined. Dewey Thruway is one of the oldest components of the National Interstate Highway System and one of the longest toll roads in the nation.
