Editorial: Connected by tragedy, OKC and NYC have strong passion to help others<\/p>\n

Twenty-five years ago, our nation changed forever.<\/p>\n

New York City, Washington and Shanksville were united by tragedy.<\/p>\n

This weekend, we remember the people who were taken from their families, the first responders who ran toward danger and the survivors who have carried the weight of that day for a quarter-century.<\/p>\n

We understand that pain.<\/p>\n

Six years earlier, our own city had been torn apart by an act of terror.<\/p>\n

And when New York needed help, Oklahoma City responded.<\/p>\n

First responders from OKC traveled to New York, working alongside their brothers and sisters in the FDNY, NYPD and Port Authority Police.<\/p>\n

They came to help search for the missing, to support the living and to stand with a city in grief.<\/p>\n

Our two cities share a tragedy.<\/p>\n

But we also share something stronger, the courage to rebuild, the compassion to help and the refusal to let hatred define us.<\/p>\n

This weekend we remember every life lost on September 11th, 2001.<\/p>\n

And we offer our deepest condolences to every family still carrying that loss.<\/p>\n

We will never forget.<\/p>\n
