Carlos Rod\u00f3n looked like a postseason pitcher on Friday night \u2014 and just in time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The lefty, who\u2019s been bothered by elbow issues this season, dominated against the Mets in possibly his best start of the year in a 6-4 win in The Bronx<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rod\u00f3n pitched a season-long 6 \u00b9\/\u2083 innings and allowed two runs, only one earned, while striking out eight, also a season-best.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought he threw the heck out of the ball,\u2019\u2019 Aaron Boone said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wearing an FDNY hat, as the Yankees commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, Rod\u00f3n called it \u201can honor to be able to pitch\u201d on the emotional night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While he hadn\u2019t given up more than two runs since his return from elbow inflammation, Rod\u00f3n had been unable to provide much length prior to Friday\u2019s start.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As the Yankees look to fortify their October rotation, Rod\u00f3n very much fit the part against a Mets lineup that\u2019s hit better of late.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He was hurt by a leadoff walk to Mark Vientos in the second, as Vientos scored later in the inning- due in part to Spencer Jones\u2019 fielding error in center.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But following Marcus Semien\u2019s one-out single in that second inning that led to an unearned run, Rod\u00f3n retired 15 of the next 16 batters he faced before Carson Benge\u2019s base hit ended his night with one out in the seventh.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rod\u00f3n was at 93 pitches and the Yankees haven\u2019t let Rod\u00f3n hit the 100 mark yet this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So Paul Blackburn entered and struggled and a run-scoring single by A.J. Ewing knocked in Benge for the only other run permitted by Rod\u00f3n.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Still, the Yankees will take this kind of performance from Rod\u00f3n, who didn\u2019t make his season debut until May following offseason elbow surgery.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rod\u00f3n hit the IL again in late June and missed over a month, dealing with elbow inflammation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since his return, Rod\u00f3n entered Friday having allowed just five earned runs in four starts, but he\u2019d pitched just 17 \u00b2\/\u2083 innings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His previous outing in San Diego had been Rod\u00f3n\u2019s most effective, as the left-hander struck out seven and gave up just one run and a pair of hits- but he walked three in five innings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Friday, Rod\u00f3n allowed only one walk, and it was to Vientos.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had better strike-throwing,\u2019\u2019 Boone said of Friday\u2019s start. \u201cHe\u2019s been really effective [and] really limiting hits, but walks have hurt him and his ability to get deep in games.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

If Friday was any indication, Rod\u00f3n could be moving past that and as long as he stays healthy, should be a key factor down the stretch and into the playoffs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
