{"id":344860,"date":"2026-09-12T09:12:30","date_gmt":"2026-09-12T09:12:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/344860\/"},"modified":"2026-09-12T09:12:30","modified_gmt":"2026-09-12T09:12:30","slug":"queensboro-hill-library-reopens-following-2-8-million-hvac-system-replacement-qns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/344860\/","title":{"rendered":"Queensboro Hill library reopens following $2.8 million HVAC system replacement \u2013 QNS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.queenslibrary.org\/about-us\/locations\/queensboro-hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Queens Public Library Queensboro Hill<\/a> location officially reopened on Thursday, Sept. 10, after a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system was installed, along with new energy-efficient LED lighting and a new dropped ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>Located at 60-05 Main St. in the <a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/neighborhoods\/queensboro-hill\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Queensboro Hill<\/a> section of <a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/neighborhoods\/flushing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Flushing<\/a>, this library has been operating since 1982. New York City Council Member Sandra Ung and the Office of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani provided the $2.8 million in funding for the renovations, which were managed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/ddc\/index.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New York City Department of Design and Construction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/2026\/09\/queensboro-hill-library-reopens-2-8-million-hvac\/ddc_9121\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-622372 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-622372\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/DDC_9121.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2100\" height=\"1401\"  \/><\/a>Energy-efficient LED lighting and a new dropped ceiling were also added to the library. Photo courtesy of the Queens Public Library<\/p>\n<p>During the library\u2019s temporary closure, improvements were also made to the 1-story, 7,200-square-foot building by the Queens Public Library team. This included adding fresh paint, new computers and completely overhauling the branch\u2019s IT infrastructure, with a new data rack, cabling and network equipment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/2026\/09\/queensboro-hill-library-reopens-2-8-million-hvac\/ddc_9118\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-622374 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-622374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/DDC_9118.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1401\" height=\"2100\"  \/><\/a>New computers were also added. Walcott, New York City Department of Design and Construction Commissioner Paul A. Ochoa, State Sen. John Liu, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Rep. Grace Meng, Assemblymember Nily Rozic, staff members from the library and the Department of Design and Construction and other community members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to welcome the community back to a more comfortable and inviting space, where they can reconnect with essential resources and programs,\u201d Walcott said.\u00a0\u201cWe are deeply grateful to our customers and staff for their patience throughout construction, and we thank our elected officials for their support and the NYC Department of Design and Construction for its hard work on this project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/2026\/09\/queensboro-hill-library-reopens-2-8-million-hvac\/ddc_9125\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-622373 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-622373\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/DDC_9125.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2100\" height=\"1401\"  \/><\/a>Photo courtesy of the Queens Public Library<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2554582308056118752MsoNoSpacing\">\u201cLibraries are cool, and we are keeping the Queensboro Hill Library cool\u2013and warm\u2014with this new HVAC system,\u201d Ochoa said. \u201cReaders need a safe and comfortable place to read, and this $2.8 million project is helping with that. We also installed new energy-efficient LED lights on the first floor. We thank the Flushing community for their patience while we worked on this library branch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-2554582308056118752MsoNoSpacing\">\u201cI am excited to celebrate the reopening of the Queensboro Hill Library and look forward to the community once again taking advantage of the many services and resources that it offers,\u201d Meng added. \u201cLibraries play a crucial role in our neighborhoods throughout Queens, and these important upgrades that have been made will allow this facility to serve local residents even better.
