\n\tJordan Firstman<\/a>, fresh off directorial debut \u201cClub Kid<\/a>\u201d \u2013 acquired by A24 for release this November \u2013 leads the English-language voice cast of \u201cJim Queen<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tVariety\u00a0reveals the exclusive first clip here:<\/p>\n

\n\tThe animated comedy, directed by Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athan\u00e9, premiered at Cannes to rave reviews<\/a>. Variety\u2019s Guy Lodge called it a \u201chilarious rare shot of broad comedy that plays like a queer \u2018South Park\u2019 on literal steroids.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cClub Kid,\u201d which Firstman starred in, wrote and produced, also took Cannes by storm, sparking a bidding war<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tHe\u2019s currently in production on Season 2 of the hit HBO series \u201cI Love LA,\u201d and has also starred in FX\u2019s \u201cEnglish Teacher\u201d and Mubi\u2019s \u201cRotting in the Sun.\u201d He\u2019s represented by UTA, The Lede Company and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFirstman is joined by Mateo Lane<\/a>, currently on his third international stand-up tour, \u201cWe Gotta Catch Up!\u201d Most recently, Lane made his Broadway debut as Billy Flynn in \u201cChicago\u201d at New York\u2019s Ambassador Theatre, the longest-running American musical in Broadway history.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tNicole Byer (\u201cNailed It!\u201d), John Cameron Mitchell (\u201cHedwig and the Angry Inch\u201d), Bob the Drag Queen (\u201cWe\u2019re Here,\u201d \u201cRuPaul\u2019s Drag Race\u201d) and Wendie Malick (\u201cShrinking\u201d) round out the cast.<\/p>\n

\n\tM\u2019saada Nia and Wolfie Trausch lead casting and recording of the English language version of the film, while Moby and Lindsay Hick\u2019s Little Walnut is producing the English-language version alongside Bobbypills.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tGlobal Constellation<\/a> is privately screening the English-language version, featuring the U.S. voice cast, to North American buyers at TIFF<\/a> over the weekend, as U.S. distribution rights are currently in negotiation.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing its buzzy Cannes premiere \u2013 which Thierry Fr\u00e9maux hailed as \u201cone of the most beautiful in the festival\u2019s history in terms of atmosphere, comparable to what \u2018The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert\u2019 once was\u201d \u2013 the film was released in French theaters by The Jokers Films on June 17, debuting at #3 at the box office \u2013 behind only \u201cToy Story 5\u201d and \u201cBackrooms.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tTo date, \u201cJim Queen\u201d is edging close to 400,000 admissions and $3 million at the French box office, and is rolling out theatrically across more than 25 international territories in the months ahead.<\/p>\n

\n\tU.S. distribution rights remain available and are currently in negotiation.<\/p>\n

\n\tProduced by Bobbypills founder David Alric and Arthur Delabays, \u201cJim Queen\u201d starts when Heterosis, a mysterious virus that turns gay men straight, sweeps through the Parisian gay scene. Jim, the six-packed sovereign of the Gym Queens, goes from Pride royalty to social outcast. With only Lucien, a freshly out twink with more heart than abs, still by his side, Jim must race to find a cure before the disease erases the community that once worshipped him.<\/p>\n

\n\tCo-written with Simon Balteaux and Brice Chevillard, \u201cJim Queen\u201d is produced by Bobbypills, one of Europe\u2019s leading adult animation studios. It\u2019s behind James Gunn\u2019s \u201cCreature Commandos,\u201d the first television series and first official chapter of the DC Universe, for DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIts credits also include \u201cCaptain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix,\u201d produced with Ubisoft Film & Television for Netflix, as well as the adult animated series \u201cCrisis Jung\u201d and \u201cVermin,\u201d both streaming on Netflix.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLet\u2019s face it \u2013 gay guys are obsessed with the way we look. It can be tough in this world, because you have to be in shape and you have to be young. I\u2019m 43, and guys look at me differently,\u201d Balteaux told\u00a0Variety\u00a0back in May<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI used to be a Gym Queen myself. Now, I\u2019m going to be a Daddy. It\u2019s the next step, so I\u2019m making fun of myself too. Although I\u2019ll still go to the gym tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNguyen added: \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of toxic masculinity in the gay community, too. You think it\u2019s enough to say you\u2019re gay, only to realize you don\u2019t fit the standards because you weigh too much. It was very liberating to write this, and to write these jokes, because we talked about what we\u2019ve experienced.\u201d<\/p>\n
