{"id":345681,"date":"2026-09-13T17:08:49","date_gmt":"2026-09-13T17:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/345681\/"},"modified":"2026-09-13T17:08:49","modified_gmt":"2026-09-13T17:08:49","slug":"man-67-dies-from-head-injuries-weeks-after-brawl-in-east-harlem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/345681\/","title":{"rendered":"Man, 67, dies from head injuries weeks after brawl in East Harlem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 67-year-old man died from his injuries three weeks after battling with a rival in <a href=\"https:\/\/carverhouses.us\/about-us\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Manhattan\u2019s George Washington Carver Houses<\/a>, cops said.<\/p>\n<p>Edwin Jimenez got into a fight with Jose Santiago, 52, outside the NYCHA complex on Aug. 24 around 9:45 p.m. at E. 102nd St. and Second Ave. in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/07\/09\/skeletal-remains-found-in-east-harlem-brownstone\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">East Harlem<\/a>, according to police. Santiago wound up stabbed throughout the body while Jimenez suffered severe head injuries.<\/p>\n<p>EMS transported both men to Mount Sinai Morningside where Santiago was listed in stable condition. Jimenez, who arrived at the hospital in critical condition and never left, died there Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Cops arrested both men after the clash. Jimenez was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, while Santiago was charged with assault.<\/p>\n<p>Jimenez lived nearby in East Harlem, about a mile away from the scene of the fatal fight, cops said.<\/p>\n<p>It was unclear what sparked the brawl.
