Video captured some extremely tense moments in Washington Heights, where loved ones of a woman beaten to death in her apartment confronted the man arrested for her murder. <\/p>\n
Police escorted 41-year-old Tiliek Thompson out of the precinct on Saturday to screams from the family of 27-year-old Lovay Williams. <\/p>\n
The Harlem man was arrested, nearly a week after Williams’ body was found, and booked on charges of murder, strangulation and child abandonment. Contact information for his attorney was not immediately known. <\/p>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn Washington Heights, police are investigating after a woman was found beaten to death inside of her apartment. Officers said they are looking for a man they believe to be her ex. NBC New York’s Charles Watson reports.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Last Sunday, police were conducting a wellness check on Williams when they found the mother beaten to death inside her home near Amsterdam Avenue and West 156th Street. <\/p>\n
Law enforcement sources said the woman’s child, believed to be around 5 years old, was present during what they said looked like a domestic incident. <\/p>\n
Neighbors said a mystery person was seen leaving the victim’s unit over and over, holding plastic bags. It wasn’t clear if police believe that person was Thompson. <\/p>\n
Williams was a reserved person, according to her neighbors, and was always accompanied by her young daughter, who was seen leaving the apartment building with police officers.<\/p>\n
“It’s very distressing for a child that age to see something so horrible happen right before their eyes,” said Anthony Sanchez, a neighbor.<\/p>\n
Those familiar with the mother and daughter’s case, like Luz Perez, said they can’t help but feel compassion for the victim and her daughter, who is now living a heartbreaking reality.<\/p>\n
“I hope they find him. That poor girl lost her mother, and that’s very sad.
