ALBANY, N.Y. \u2014 New York State will start mailing out energy rebate checks for up to $200 next week. The state says the checks will go to 8.2 million households between Sept. 21 and the end of December. <\/p>\n
The $1 billion funding for the checks comes from this year\u2019s state budget. During a visit in Rochester, Gov. Kathy Hochul said the checks aim to offset the rising costs of energy. News10NBC\u2019s Jennifer Lewke pressed the governor on<\/a> what else she plans to do to tackle high energy bills.<\/p>\n You\u2019re eligible for a rebate check if you filed your income taxes as a full-time New York State resident in 2024. The checks will not go out to anyone claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer\u2019s return. <\/p>\n Joint filers with incomes below $150,000 a year will get a $200 check. Joint filers making between $150,000 and $300,000 will get $150. Single filers with incomes below $150,000 will get a $100 check.
