{"id":346442,"date":"2026-09-14T16:22:16","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T16:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/346442\/"},"modified":"2026-09-14T16:22:16","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T16:22:16","slug":"mamdani-james-filing-lawsuits-to-stop-trump-rule-targeting-immigrants-using-public-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/346442\/","title":{"rendered":"Mamdani, James filing lawsuits to stop Trump rule targeting immigrants using public benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A set of lawsuits in Manhattan being filed jointly Monday by New York City and New York State Monday takes aim at the Trump administration\u2019s plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/articles\/a-growing-effort-to-restrict-immigrants-access-to-public-benefits\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">target immigrants for deportation if they\u2019ve lawfully used public benefits.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Manhattan Federal Court cases being brought by a coalition of states and cities, led by the offices of New York Attorney General Tish James and Mayor Mamdani, seek to halt what they describe as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/priorities\/border-immigration\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201ccatastrophic\u201d new government policies<\/a> from taking effect.
