For under a million dollars, one can find all sorts of housing configurations: park- and subway-adjacent studios, one-bedrooms hidden in carriage houses or former shoe factories, and even the occasional true two-bedroom. We\u2019re combing the market for particularly spacious, nicely renovated, or otherwise worth-a-look apartments at various six-digit price points.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This week, we\u2019ve got a pair of one-bedrooms with two floors, plus a two-bedroom in Jackson Heights with proper living and bedroom wings.<\/p>\n
1 Plaza St. West, Apt. 11B<\/a><\/p>\n \n This one-bedroom co-op in Park Slope, as seen in this listing photo, still has some prewar grandeur with its high ceilings and arched hallway. It\u2019s on the 11th floor of a 1920s Art Deco co-op, and\u00a0the lobby is a prewar time capsule of terrazzo floors, veiny dark marble, and a floral coffered ceiling. The apartment still has some of that grandeur, too, thanks to the nine-foot-plus beamed ceilings and herringbone floors. The spacious living-dining area\u2019s windows face south over\u00a0New York Harbor and the local church spires. Things are a bit more modern in the galley kitchen, with luxe stainless-steel appliances, Carrara-marble countertops, and plenty of white lacquered cabinetry. Through the arched hallway is a windowed bathroom with a cast-iron soaking tub; past that is the bedroom with double exposures across four windows and enough room for a king-size bed. It\u2019s $1,913 for the monthlies, which get you a full-time doorman, a live-in super, and porters, as well as a laundry room, bike storage, and even AC storage. You\u2019re right down the block from Grand Army Plaza, where the 2\/3 and 4 trains stop and the Greenmarket comes in on Saturdays, and just a little farther out is Vanderbilt Avenue with its local restaurant row.<\/p>\n 117 Kingsland Ave., Apt. 3B<\/a><\/p>\n \n This Williamsburg loft with one bedroom, as seen in this listing photo, feels particularly spacious thanks to the massive wall of east-facing windows. The ceiling is 15 feet high in this condo, and the east-facing windows looking out on the treetops cover almost a whole wall. (They also open up to a Juliet balcony.) The bedroom is relatively small \u2014 you\u2019ll need to find a petite dresser \u2014 but its floor-to-ceiling windows will help it seem a bit roomier than it is. Upstairs is a 264-square-foot windowed loft space, which has been juggling a few roles as a home office, second bedroom, and reading nook. Downstairs, the pink-tiled bathroom has, for some reason, a tub and a walk-in shower. The negatives: The Graham Avenue train stop is a good 12 minutes\u2019 walk, the BQE is within view and earshot, and the only closet is currently occupied by a washer-dryer, so you\u2019ll need to embrace the minimalist lifestyle or pay for a storage unit somewhere. The common charges and taxes come out to $1,228 a month, which gets you access to a shared roof deck. You are, however, just a few blocks from Brooklyn Steel and Under the K Bridge for shows, and McGolrick Park is close by.<\/p>\n 83-10 35th Ave., Apt. 4F<\/a><\/p>\n \n The butcher-block island in this Jackson Heights two-bedroom, as seen in this listing photo, adds a nice pop of color to the otherwise tame space. This two-bed co-op in Jackson Heights\u2019s Fillmore Hall is big enough that you can actually say it has living and dining wings. The eat-in kitchen\u2019s blue-painted island adds some pop and has a butcher-block top, and beyond that is a living area whose trio of oversize windows look out onto the leafy interior courtyard. A second hallway off the foyer leads to the bedrooms, each of which can hold a king-size bed; the primary bedroom has an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling closets. The bathroom between the bedrooms has been updated with floral black-and-white floor tiles and a particularly large sink. The monthlies aren\u2019t too bad at $1,182, covering a live-in super and music, laundry, and bike rooms. (There\u2019s storage as well, but there is a waiting list for space.) You\u2019re just over a block away from Paseo Park on 34th Avenue, and it\u2019s an eight-minute walk to the 7 train at 82nd Street.<\/p>\n 139 W. 85th St., Apt. 4<\/a><\/p>\n \n This one-bedroom duplex on the Upper West Side, as seen in this listing photo, appears to have had some AI oomph-boosting, but the prewar bones are incredible. The listing photos in this West 85th Street brownstone apartment appear to have had a bit of AI oomph-boosting<\/a> (the video tour<\/a> reveals that the wood-burning fireplace with aquamarine tiling, immaculate in the pictures, could use a refresh in real life), but the bones here are impressive. The living area has, along with the aforementioned fireplace, your classic exposed brick and a 12-foot ceiling with exposed beams, a trio of leaded south-facing windows, and enough room for a couch and a workstation setup. The open kitchen adds to the airy feel but is pretty small itself, so choose your recipes wisely. Up the spiral staircase is the bedroom, which has more southern views in addition to some great built-ins, plus a marbled-out bathroom. The $1,413 monthlies get you only a bike room, but at least the location is solid: You\u2019re less than two blocks from not only Central Park but also the Broadway 1 train and Barney Greengrass.
