ALBANY, New York (WWNY) – You could soon get $100 to $200 in the mail from New York state.<\/p>\n
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Monday that energy rebate checks will be sent to 8.2 million households statewide starting Sept. 21.<\/p>\n
Funded through $1 billion POWER program<\/p>\n
The payments come from New York\u2019s $1 billion Protecting Our Wallets Energy Rebate, or POWER, program, which was adopted in the state budget.<\/p>\n
Hochul said POWER will give New Yorkers \u201cneeded relief in the face of federal tariffs that have increased the cost of living across the board and President Trump\u2019s war in Iran that has New Yorkers now paying, on average, $4.35 per gallon at the pumps, a 45% jump since the war began.\u201d<\/p>\n
No application needed<\/p>\n
Checks will be mailed directly to eligible New Yorkers, with deliveries to continue through December. There is no need to apply, sign up or do anything to receive a check.<\/p>\n
