Olivier nominee Diego Rodriguez, seen on Broadway in Sunset Blvd.\u00a0and in the London Palladium\u00a0Evita, has joined the cast of\u00a0the upcoming nine-performance run of September L. Davis: The Apology Tour<\/a>. The comedy show is\u00a0set to play Studio Seaview Off-Broadway September 20-October 5. The show will feature SNL alum and Tony-nominated Broadway Schmigadoon!<\/a> star Ana Gasteyer<\/a> bringing her campy online alter ego to the stage for the first time, with Kevin Cahoon<\/a> (Shucked<\/a>) at the helm.<\/p>\n

Rodriguez joins previously reported guest stars Betsy Wolfe<\/a> (& Juliet<\/a>), Matthew Wilkas (Ginger Twinsies), Kate Reinders<\/a> (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series), and Greg Hildreth<\/a> (Chicago<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Gasteyer created the character of September L. Davis during the build-up to Schmigadoon!’s Broadway opening. The original lore was that Davis, an egotistical and talent-challenged actor, believed that Gasteyer had unfairly stolen the role of Mildred Layton (Gasteyer’s character in Schmigadoon!) from her. Davis even made a surprise appearance on the Schmigadoon! opening night red carpet. <\/p>\n

In the weeks since\u2014a period that included Gasteyer getting a 2026 Tony nomination for playing Mildred, the straight-laced villain of Schmigadoon!\u2014Davis has beefed online with a number of Broadway notables, faked her own death, and other hijinks.<\/p>\n

The persona is the latest in Gasteyer’s esteemed rolodex of comedy characters, which on Saturday Night Live included such favorites as school music teacher-turned pop music singer Bobbi Mohan-Culp, NPR host Margaret Jo McCullen, C\u00e9line Dion, Martha Stewart<\/a>, and many more.<\/p>\n

Press notes share that audiences can expect a night of “apologies, memories, and music,” with the evening themed around Davis apologizing “to those [she] has wronged.” The performance will also include audience participation.<\/p>\n

The production will also\u00a0feature music direction by Nate Patten<\/a>, choreography by Richard Yoder (Schmigadoon!), lighting design by Nick Solyom<\/a>, and sound design by Connor Wang<\/a>. Sydney Price will serve as production stage manager, and Hudson Theatrical Associates<\/a> is production manager. General management is by Jonathan Whitton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gasteyer’s other Broadway credits include playing Elphaba in Wicked<\/a>, Threepenny Opera, and Once Upon a Mattress<\/a>.<\/p>\n
