Bringing some welcome light to the prominent Tribeca corner that is Greenwich and North Moore is Suram Sushi + Ramen<\/a> \u2014 one of two new restaurants from the Friedmans folks. This space, after lying dormant for years, was first tricked out for the Mexican restaurant Caliza; Suram opened in late August and Friedmans is also now open on the corner. (Will get there this week.)<\/p>\n

NB: They are open for lunch!<\/p>\n

The first Suram opened in 2023 on 60th and West End Avenue; they have three other locations in Manhattan along with a private events spaces in Hudson Yards and Herald Square.<\/p>\n

This is my kind of menu, since I could eat seaweed salad ($10) and crispy rice all day long. The menu is large: there\u2019s the usual array of sushi and hot appetizers: gyoza, edamame, Japanese fried chicken. Said salmon crispy rice ($18) has a little kick thanks to the togarashi \u2014 Japanese spice mix. The tofu app was silky, not meaty, which is not usually my choice but it was in an excellent broth.<\/p>\n

Then there are about 10 offerings of ramen and udon (around $20) and a list of signature maki (also around $20): the number three is inside tuna and salmon topped with tuna, salmon, eel sauce, tempura flake, scallion & tobiko.<\/p>\n

The space is small, which is kind of refreshing \u2014 it\u2019s cozy and casual. (It was the ice cream and to-go side of Caliza.)<\/p>\n

The Phillips family opened their first restaurant in 2009 in the Chelsea Market. That original menu was designed to be a gluten-free safe haven, since Phillips\u2019 sister has celiac disease. The company has developed its own flours for pancakes, waffles and fried chicken \u2014 and now pizza and pasta for its Casa Louie locations. All in all, by my count there are 14 including their Italian concept, Casa Louie. Impressive collection.<\/p>\n
