<\/p>\nNEW YORK \u2013 A fundraising event for the campaign of Greek-American Pamela Michos, candidate for the New York State Senate in the 11th District, was held the evening of September 14 in Bayside, Queens.<\/p>\n
The event took place at Laterna Estiatorio on Bell Boulevard and was hosted by Efstathios Valiotis, Philip Christopher, George Delis, and Laterna restaurant. The central message of the evening was Michos campaign slogan: \u201cProtect the American Dream.\u201d<\/p>\n
Michos, who is of Kefalonian descent, is from Whitestone and is running on the Republican and Conservative Party lines in the November 3 general election. Her opponent is incumbent Democratic State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky.<\/p>\n

The 11th District includes a broad section of Queens, with neighborhoods such as Whitestone, Bayside, College Point, Little Neck, Douglaston, Astoria, East Elmhurst, Queens Village, Bellerose, Glen Oaks, and Jamaica.<\/p>\n
Michos is a finance professional and, according to her biography, has experience managing billions of dollars in assets. She is a mother and has been active in community and educational organizations in Queens.<\/p>\n
She maintains close ties with the Greek-American Community and the Greek Orthodox Church. Michos is president of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Stephen and Areti Cherpelis Greek School of the St. Nicholas Shrine Church in Flushing. In the past, she has also been active in informational programs on health and nutrition issues in New York communities.<\/p>\n

In her campaign platform, the Greek-American candidate places emphasis on the cost of living and affordability for working families, support for the family, and protection of workers, as well as access to information and education on health issues.<\/p>\n
Among other things, she supports strengthening paid maternity leave and proposes a financial-assistance program for the down payment on the purchase of a first home by young families. She also supports redirecting funds that, according to her campaign, are currently allocated to managing illegal immigration toward programs intended for New York residents.<\/p>\n
