NEW YORK (PIX11) \u2014 Half of all New York households will now be eligible for discounts on their utility bills, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday. <\/p>\n
There are already 1 million New Yorkers enrolled in the state\u2019s Energy Affordability Program,<\/a> Hochul said. New eligibility requirements, which went into effect in January, mean that 2.5 million will be eligible for the monthly discount. Both homeowners and renters can apply.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \t In New York City, a two-person household making under $129,600 per year would qualify for the discount with both Con Edison and National Grid. That threshold is $162,000 for a household of four. Long Island thresholds are a little higher, but the income eligibility is lower across the state.<\/p>\n Discounts vary by utility company and income level, and can reach up to $500 per year. New Yorkers need to apply to get the benefit. Anyone already receiving SNAP, Medicaid and other benefits is eligible, but still needs to apply. For more information, click here<\/a>. <\/p>\n A one-time utility solution<\/a> is also going out this fall.
