But this fall, one of its most captivating icons is getting a dramatic new look: St. Patrick\u2019s Cathedral<\/a> will transform into a living canvas of light, music, and history.<\/p>\n

When centuries of history meet light and music<\/p>\n

Starting October 2nd, LUMINISCENCE,<\/a> a production that has already welcomed more than 2 million people across more than 20 shows in eight countries, will bring its acclaimed immersive light experience to St. Patrick\u2019s Cathedral.<\/p>\n

During the roughly 60-minute performance, 360-degree video mapping will cover the cathedral\u2019s soaring arches, columns, and stone walls, turning its Gothic architecture into a constantly changing canvas. The show follows three chapters, Gathering, Community, and Nation, exploring the people and events that shaped the cathedral and its place in New York.<\/a><\/p>\n

The story is narrated by Jonathan Roumie, <\/a>best known for playing Jesus in The Chosen and a New York native himself.<\/p>\n

Music is a major part of the experience, too. Select Live performances feature a choir, while Live+ adds a full orchestra. Other sessions use recorded music and narration and offer a more budget-friendly option.<\/p>\n

North America\u2019s largest Gothic Revival cathedral<\/p>\n

St. Patrick\u2019s Cathedral opened in 1879, after more than 20 years of construction and a pause during the Civil War. Designed by architect James Renwick Jr., it is the largest Gothic Revival<\/a> Catholic cathedral in North America.<\/p>\n

The cathedral<\/a> stretches about 405 feet long and 174 feet wide, while its twin spires rise 330 feet above Fifth Avenue.
