Police have arrested and charged a homeless man who, they say, stabbed a teenage congregant at a Brooklyn<\/a> synagogue on Monday evening amid the Jewish high holy days.<\/p>\n

According to police sources, 22-year-old Keynes Shimon, whose last known address was Staten Island, has been charged in the 66th Precinct<\/a> after he allegedly went berserk inside the house of worship at 1675 54th St. in Boro Park.<\/p>\n

Cops say they were called to the shul at 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 14 after receiving a 911 call reporting an emotionally disturbed person. The incident occurred just days after the celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year.<\/p>\n

When the officers arrived, they discovered that Shimon had allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old boy in the hand with what cops described as a cutting instrument. The boy refused medical treatment at the scene.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, sources familiar with the investigation report that Shimon is a homeless individual who is known to have frequented the synagogue in the past. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a nearby hospital for a psychological evaluation.<\/p>\n

Shimon has been charged with assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon.\n<\/p>\n
