The Queens County Criminal Bar Association is partnering with the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the Legal Aid Society, the Brooklyn Defenders Queens office and New York City Public Schools to host a career fair for high school students on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Helen Marshall Cultural Center in Queens Borough Hall, located at 120-55 Queens Blvd. in Kew Gardens.

Students on hand for this career fair, titled “Crime to Courtroom, a Sneak Peek into Criminal Justice Careers,” will be introduced to a wide range of potential careers in the criminal justice system.

Attendees of the career fair will have an opportunity to visit several different tables and meet with professionals from across the justice system. The professionals will be able to offer valuable insight by answering questions and giving guidance on how to build a career in criminal justice.

“The criminal justice system runs on far more than just the attorneys who appear in court, and most students never get to experience the full range of people that keep the criminal justice system moving. Bringing all of these various careers together in one room will allow students to ask direct questions of those who hold these jobs and leave with a clear sense of the path to each career,” Queens County Criminal Bar Association President Richard Sikes said. “We are grateful to Queens County District Attorney Melinda Katz and the District Attorney’s Community Partnerships Division for their assistance with the logistics for this event. We would also like to acknowledge the support of the Legal Aid Society, Brooklyn Defenders – Queens Office and New York City Public Schools for joining us in this effort.”

Among the careers that students will be able to get more insight on are judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, paralegals, investigators, court officers, court clerks, court reporters, interpreters, the Civilian Complaint Review Board and much more.

“My staff and I are committed to helping young people learn about the justice system and how the District Attorney’s Office plays a central role in that process,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said. “Careers in criminal justice are rewarding, and this fair will guide our high school students on the path to employment. We thank the Queens County Criminal Bar Association for their efforts.”
