Haut pointed out citywide major crime fell 6% through August, with murders dropping 24%, shooting incidents falling 9% and shooting victims declining nearly 12%.<\/p>\n
He credited the department\u2019s data-informed \u201cprecision policing\u201d strategy, which analyzes crime trends and places officers where and when they are needed most.<\/p>\n
But crime rates moved in the opposite direction in parts of the Bronx.<\/p>\n
In the 50th Precinct\u2019s major crime fell 3.8% through Aug. 30, but killings jumped from one to eight and shooting victims rose to 12 from seven. Meanwhile, felony assaults increased more than 11% while reported rapes increased to 29 from 18 \u2014 a 61% jump, according to the data.<\/p>\n
In the 46th Precinct, major crime rose 9% through Aug. 30, with murders climbing from six to 10 while shooting incidents increased to 21 from 18, the data showed. Felony assaults jumped24% to 733 from 590 and reported rapes rose to 40 from 29 \u2014 a 37.9% increase, according to NYPD data.<\/p>\n
Reported rapes rose cityside 3% through August and felony assaults inched up only 0.7%, to 20,200 complaints from 20,065 a year earlier.<\/p>\n
