NEW YORK (PIX11) \u2014 Do you have any potentially harmful items that need to be disposed of safely?<\/p>\n

The New York City Department of Sanitation is having a series of SAFE disposal events, with the first one coming soon in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Discover more local reporting on our homepage\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

During the free event, New York City residents can dispose of household items that cannot be normally discarded in the trash or recycling bins.<\/p>\n

These items include:<\/p>\n

Devices that contain mercury<\/p>\n

These disposal events allow the Department of Sanitation to remove the items that can be harmful in a safe manner.<\/p>\n

The events are:<\/p>\n

Sunday, Sept. 20: Manhattan
Union Square Park, North Plaza<\/p>\n

Saturday, Sept. 26: Queens
Cunningham Park<\/p>\n

Sunday, Oct. 11: Brooklyn
Floyd Bennett Field<\/p>\n

Saturday, Oct. 17: Staten Island
Midland Beach Parking Lot 8<\/p>\n

Saturday, Oct. 24: The Bronx
Orchard Beach<\/p>\n

All events are rain or shine, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

All materials collected will either be recycled, blended for fuel or sent to licensed hazardous waste facilities for safe disposal.<\/p>\n
