{"id":348828,"date":"2026-09-17T00:36:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T00:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/348828\/"},"modified":"2026-09-17T00:36:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-17T00:36:12","slug":"ireland-and-new-york-bar-associations-forge-new-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/348828\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland and New York Bar Associations Forge New Partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tIreland and New York Bar Associations Forge New Partnership<\/p>\n<p class=\"sr-only\">9.16.2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"sr-only author\">By Jennifer Andrus <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-308650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/MOU-signing-2-768x512.jpg\" alt=\"A woman in a green dress signs a document at a podium labeled American Irish Historical Society, while three others stand nearby, engaged and holding papers.\" width=\"483\" height=\"322\"  \/>New York State Bar Association President Taa Grays signs agreement while International Section Chair Helen Naves looks on.<\/p>\n<p>A new partnership agreement between the New York State Bar Association and the Bar of Ireland was signed in Manhattan this week, formalizing ties between the two legal communities and strengthening cooperation between Ireland and the United States in international law and business.<\/p>\n<p>The signing ceremony at the American Irish Historical Society between Taa Grays, president of the New York State Bar Association, and Se\u00e1n Guerin, chair of the Council of The Bar of Ireland, capped off the group\u2019s three-day trade mission to New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis MOU is an opportunity to collaborate, to partner, to advance our respective missions and to learn from each other,\u201d Grays said. \u201cTo work together and to bring harmony in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Grays was joined by International Section Chair Helen Naves and section members Howard Fischer and Ed Lenci who were part of a panel discussing the advantages for American businesses of using Ireland as a forum for international arbitrations in Europe. Fischer said Ireland provides an attractive option for transactions involving both American and European parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great choice post-Brexit for a transaction with an EU connection,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is a gateway to EU law done in a common-law style.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nysba.org\/nysba-online-store\/nysba-store-catalog\/?format=ebook\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"House Ad\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Guardianship_600x90_150th.png\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Leaders of Ireland\u2019s governmental and legal establishments attended including former Taoiseach Enda Kenny, now president of Ireland for Law; Catherine Ardagh, minister of state at Ireland\u2019s Department of Justice, Home Affairs, and Migration; Rossa Fanning, attorney general of Ireland, Justice David Barniville, president of Ireland\u2019s High Court and Ireland\u2019s designated arbitration judge, and Paul McGarry, former chair of the Bar of Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSigning a memorandum of understanding with the New York State Bar Association is a real highlight,\u201d Guerin told Irish Central.com. \u201cWhen we consider the shared legal history and legal culture, what\u2019s most important is not the ability to recognize procedural steps that look very similar in the other country as they do at home, or even a shared common-law background. It\u2019s a shared fundamental commitment to the rule of law which underlies all of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trade mission is part of a growing effort by Ireland\u2019s legal sector to expand its international profile.
