To paraphrase SNL\u00a0comedian Bill Hader\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0iconic character, Stefon<\/a>, \u201cNew York\u2019s hottest\u00a0club has everything: Dancing, disco balls. And your parents.\u201d That\u2019s right: a\u00a0nightclub in Manhattan<\/a>\u2018s\u00a0East Village called Joyface<\/a>\u00a0not only encourages\u00a0people to bring\u00a0their mom, dad, or both\u2014it rewards them.<\/p>\n

Why should tripping\u00a0the light fantastic\u00a0have an age cap? Dancing\u00a0is one of\u00a0the many threads\u00a0that link people\u00a0of all ages\u00a0together. Making\u00a0the fun a\u00a0family affair only\u00a0adds a little\u00a0extra magic to\u00a0an already great\u00a0night out.<\/p>\n

\u2018Bring your parents, get right in\u2019<\/p>\n

Joyface lists the\u00a0idea right in\u00a0their bio: \u201cBring your parents, get right in.\u201d In other words, people who\u00a0bring their parents\u00a0as plus-ones\u00a0don\u2019t have\u00a0to wait in\u00a0line; they can head straight onto the dance floor. <\/p>\n

In an Instagram post, The Female Quotient<\/a>\u00a0explains, \u201cA\u00a0hot and happenin\u2019 nightclub in New\u00a0York\u2019s East Village\u00a0isn\u2019t the easiest\u00a0to get into\u2026 with one exception. Joyface leans all\u00a0the way into\u00a070s nostalgia, from\u00a0the decor to\u00a0the music to\u00a0apparently the VIP\u00a0list.<\/p>\n

Patrons looking to\u00a0dance might have\u00a0long lines to\u00a0contend with, but\u00a0access to the\u00a0dance floor\u00a0is granted immediately\u00a0if you show\u00a0up with a\u00a0mom or dad. Who said the\u00a0club nights were\u00a0only for 20-somethings?!\u201d<\/p>\n

Named after mom, Joy<\/p>\n

The bar is\u00a0co-owned by\u00a0Jennifer Shorr, who\u00a0adorably shared that\u00a0the discotheque is\u00a0named after her\u00a0own mom, Joy. DJs who\u00a0have \u201cspun\u201d there\u00a0find the vibe\u00a0refreshing. Mike Vosters<\/a>, a \u201cdestination DJ and event engineer,\u201d shares\u00a0on his website that Schorr had\u00a0given just one\u00a0note when she booked him. \u201cBefore my\u00a0first night, the\u00a0owner, Jenn Shorr, gave me a\u00a0simple\u00a0creative brief\u2026nothing\u00a0newer than 1984. Mostly disco.\u201d<\/p>\n

At first, Vosters wondered how this would work. \u201cMy initial reaction\u00a0was\u2026wait\u2026what? The entire night? You only want\u00a0disco & oldies? There\u2019s\u00a0no way that\u2019ll\u00a0fly in New\u00a0York. But at\u00a0the same time, after a decade\u00a0of DJ\u2019ing\u00a0in NYC, it\u00a0was a refreshing\u00a0brief. Everyone else\u00a0defaulted to club\u00a0bangers, and it\u00a0had started to\u00a0get monotonous. So\u00a0I sat down\u00a0and got to\u00a0work digging through\u00a0my digital crates\u2026crates I\u2019d never\u00a0thought I\u2019d pull\u00a0from for a\u00a0club.\u201d<\/p>\n

Combining worlds<\/p>\n

The comments under Joyface\u2019s post are as positive and effervescent as the idea. One\u00a0Instagrammer writes, \u201cHonestly, making your parents\u00a0the VIP pass\u00a0is kind of\u00a0genius. Joy gets\u00a0bigger when generations\u00a0stop acting like\u00a0they\u2019re supposed to\u00a0live in separate\u00a0worlds.\u201d<\/p>\n

One mom shares, \u201cI\u2019m 57 and\u00a0been going to\u00a0nightclubs alone for\u00a0the past decade\u00a0that I\u2019ve been\u00a0single. I routinely\u00a0stay out until\u00a04-5am. My\u00a0oldest turned 21\u00a0in January, and\u00a0he\u2019s been coming\u00a0with me to\u00a0all the underground\u00a0events at the\u00a0Latin dance club\u00a0I go to\u00a0in Cambridge, MA. Everyone thinks it\u2019s\u00a0awesome that I\u00a0bring my son\u00a0and tell him\u00a0how lucky he\u00a0is that his\u00a0mom is so\u00a0fun and youthful.\u00a0It\u2019d be a\u00a0riot to try\u00a0this place out\u00a0and hear they\u00a0think he\u2019s the\u00a0one bringing me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another Instagrammer hopes a trip to the club with her mom will bring back memories. \u201cIs this forever and always??? My mom and I are going to NYC at the end of October. My mom was born and raised in the city, she tells me stories of how she would close down Studio 54 when it was a nightclub. She\u2019d love a NY club night again!!\u201d<\/p>\n
