Wendy\u2019s, the popular fast-food chain that operates almost 6,000 restaurants in the United States, including seven on Staten Island, has announced it will close hundreds of locations as part of a sweeping turnaround plan.<\/p>\n
Interim CEO Ken Cook told CNN<\/a> that a \u201cmid-single-digit percentage\u201d of the company\u2019s restaurants would close, equating to about 250 to 300 locations. Wendy\u2019s did not respond to a request for comment about which sites are slated for closure, but in other reports, the stores were described as \u201cconsistently underperforming.\u201d<\/p>\n The closures will begin this year and continue through 2026.<\/p>\n The news comes one week after Wendy\u2019s announced in financial filings that U.S. sales dropped 4.4% for the third quarter and are down 3.4% year to date.
