Today, an Herm\u00e8s<\/a> store opened its doors at 130 Berry Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, making it the maison\u2019s 44th U.S. outpost.<\/p>\n Fear not, this isn\u2019t a luxury fashion heavyweight dropping into a new neighborhood with little regard. Herm\u00e8s has taken notes on New York living across the bridge: The same warehouse-inspired building was home to an Herm\u00e8s pop-up for the past three years.<\/p>\n For its permanent incarnation, RDAI, the house\u2019s go-to architects, reworked the corner site into a collage of brick fa\u00e7ades spliced with ultra-modern window displays. The building itself is folded around an interior courtyard, shaded by an American sweetgum tree. Inside, the two floors propose a new definition of loft infrastructure\u2014raw brick, grey terrazzo, and metalwork that nods openly to the industrial legacy of Williamsburg.<\/p>\n Intricate mosaic flooring and an Herm\u00e8s crest greet guests first, before silk, fashion jewelry, shoes, and beauty<\/a> offerings give way to a home collection staged as a sumptuous living room, its walls done up in woven leather straps, baby blue shoelaces, and cotton fibers. A double-height brick mural anchors a staircase that riffs on the city\u2019s fire escapes, leather-wrapped handrails and all. (Yes, the banister is also dressed in Herm\u00e8s.) Upstairs, a jewelry and watch salon sits between handwoven, earth-toned wall compositions, with ready-to-wear and equestrian goods catching the natural light streaming in down the hall, leather goods meanwhile accented by a rotation of rugs.<\/p>\n The art on display leans referential as well. Photography from New Yorker Bill Jacobson and Californian Janet Delaney sits alongside architectural studies by Philippe Weisbecker, pulled from his \u201cStructures\u201d series focused on early 20th-century industrial buildings.
