New York Mets <\/a>first baseman Jared Young was carted off on a stretcher Thursday night following a terrifying collision with teammate Nolan McLean during a game against the Phillies at Citi Field.<\/p>\n

The play unfolded in the top of the sixth inning when the Phillies’ Justin Crawford grounded a slow roller up the first-base line. Both Young and McLean, the Mets’ starting pitcher, converged to field the ball.<\/p>\n

As Young dove toward the grounder, McLean attempted to jump over his teammate.<\/p>\n

McLean’s knee made contact with what appeared to be the side of Young’s head during the play, sending Young face-down into the dirt. He lay there without moving for several moments.<\/p>\n

Medical staff from the Mets dugout<\/a> rushed onto the field to treat the 31-year-old infielder.<\/p>\n

Trainers stabilized Young’s neck and evaluated him on the field before placing him on a stretcher.<\/p>\n

Young offered a positive sign to the Citi Field crowd<\/a> as he was driven off the field, raising his thumb to give a thumbs-up as fans responded with a supportive ovation.<\/p>\n

Mark Vientos<\/a> replaced Young at first base when play resumed.<\/p>\n

The Mets have not yet released an official medical update regarding Young’s status. The team is expected to provide further details following complete hospital evaluations and concussion testing<\/a>.<\/p>\n
