The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has outfitted buses on three more Queens routes with automated camera enforcement technology<\/p>\n
The cameras on the Q25 and Q63\/66 routes were activated this past Monday, Sept. 14, the beginning of a 60-day grace period, during which the city will send out warning notices for traffic violations such as blocking a bus stop or double parking in a bus lane. When fines commence they will start at $50, and can escalate to up to $250 for repeat offenses.<\/p>\n
The Q25 runs between Sutphin Boulevard\/94th Avenue in Jamaica and Poppenhusen Avenue\/119th Street in College Point.<\/p>\n
The Q63 rush bus runs mostly along Northern Boulevard between the Flushing Main Street transit hub and Court Square in Long Island City.<\/p>\n
The Q66 Local runs between Flushing Main Street and Queens Plaza along Northern Boulevard, 35th Avenue and 21st Street.<\/p>\n
The MTA said in a press release that the aim is to allow buses to run faster, safer and more reliably.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen combined with dedicated bus lanes and street upgrades, the ACE program has helped to improve bus speeds across the full length of ACE-enabled routes, with some segments on ACE routes achieving gains of nearly 30 percent,\u201d the agency said.<\/p>\n
ACE is now enforced on a total of 73 routes in the city on more than 2,000 buses, covering about 825 route miles.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The program is administered in partnership with the New York City Departments of Transportation and Finance.
