The father of four children poisoned to death<\/a> by their mother and grandmother in a harrowing murder-suicide is now seeking $400 million from upstate New York government and school agencies \u2013 whom he claims failed to protect the kids from years of abuse, bombshell court documents reveal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brady Harmon filed a legal notice announcing his intentions<\/a> to sue the City of Mechanicville, Saratoga County, two school districts and a housing authority over allegations of negligence and systemic failures \u2013 three months to the day after authorities say his ex-wife and her mother conspired to fatally poison the kids and themselves<\/a> on June 10.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The children \u2013 Harper, 13; Hudson, 11, and 10-year-old twins Gracelynn and Gavin Harmon \u2013 had already suffered years of medical abuse and other harm at the hands of their twisted mom, Sarah Myers, and grandmother, Amy Steadman, Harmon claims in the new, 17-page notice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The notice accuses the women of having Munchausen syndrome by proxy \u2013 an abusive disorder where caregivers exaggerate, fabricate or induce illnesses in a person under their care \u2013 and \u201cregularly drugging\u201d the youngsters by giving them melatonin, Benadryl and Kratom in order \u201cto control them and to make them sick.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

On one particularly disturbing occasion in May 2024, three of the kids<\/a> were sent to Albany Medical Center after all four of them became ill and showed signs of having an opiate overdose while attending the Mechanicville City School District \u2013 with little Gracelynn even requiring Narcan to revive her, according to the docs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The hospital reportedly called Child Protective Services following that incident \u2013 which Myers blamed on the kids taking Benadryl \u2013 but it should have resulted in the kids being taken from their mother\u2019s care or at least \u201ctriggered immediate criminal and abuse investigations,\u201d the court docs charge.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The notice heart-wrenchingly claims little Gavin got the worst abuse, with the women having him \u201cfalsely diagnosed with several mental illnesses and put on a psychotropic medication that reduced his ability to fight back.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the kids were chronically absent from school under the guise that Myers was homeschooling them, according to the docs, the agencies \u201cdeliberately kept information about the abuse and neglect,\u201d as well as their school and medical records from their father \u2013 \u201cin violation of his parental rights and the law.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Harmon, who had been embroiled in a bitter custody dispute with Myers, had not seen his children since 2019<\/a> \u2013 and was eagerly preparing for their upcoming trip to visit him in Utah when investigators found the relatives\u2019 bodies badly decomposed<\/a> inside their Mechanicville apartment on June 23.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Over the almost two weeks before that, Harmon claims in the filing that he repeatedly requested welfare checks from police \u2013 who only entered the apartment after a neighbor eventually called 911 about a foul smell coming from the unit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a sick letter discovered by authorities<\/a> after the slayings, Myers alleged that Harmon had abused her and her children, and that the killings were the only way to save them from further abuse.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Harmon has denied the abuse claims and claimed in the legal notice that his ex-wife<\/a> used that narrative in order \u201cto gain sympathy, resources (including public resources), and money, and to otherwise control, manipulate, abuse and harm the children.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the same time, the agencies \u2013 including the Mechanicville Housing Authority, which oversaw the apartment complex where they lived \u2013 failed to intervene and allowed the abuse to continue.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Harmon last saw his children in 2019, as he had been in an bitter custody battle with Myers before the relative\u2019s decomposed bodies were found inside the Mechanicville apartment on June 23. Cindy Schultz for NY Post<\/p>\n

The children stayed inside the home, even despite \u201cmultiple complaints and investigations\u201d by CPS, Harmon\u2019s lawyer, Nicholas Liakas, told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Among the defendants listed in the notice, \u201cChild Protective Services failed these children,\u201d Liakas said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the warning signs are there, people need to step up,\u201d the attorney continued. \u201cWe can\u2019t wait until a tragedy occurs to say what should have been done before these children are abused.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another goal of the legal fight is \u201cto institute change to protect all of New York and all of its children, [who] are the most vulnerable and have nowhere else to turn,\u201d Liakas said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we\u2019re doing is we\u2019re seeking justice for this family, but we\u2019re also trying to implement institutional change here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ballston Spa Central School District, who is listed as a defendant in the filing, declined to comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
