CARBON COUNTY, Pa. – The coroner has identified a 28-year-old New York man who died in a hit-and-run accident in Penn Forest Township late Thursday night, police say.<\/p>\n
Kyle Elardo of Suffolk County, New York, was pronounced dead on Thursday at 12:18 a.m. by Carbon County Chief Deputy Coroner Jason T. Smith.<\/p>\n
On Thursday around 11:30 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police responded to State Route 903 and Church Road for reports of a fatal hit-and-run crash.<\/p>\n
Through investigation, police determined the victim was operating an ATV and, for unknown reasons, fell off into the roadway.<\/p>\n
The victim fell into the Route 903 northbound lane, where they were then struck by a vehicle, authorities say.<\/p>\n
After the initial impact, the car failed to stop, fleeing the scene in an unknown direction, officials say.<\/p>\n
According to police, the ATV came to a controlled stop off the roadway near a small tree on the right side of the road, displaying no damage.<\/p>\n
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carbon County Coroner. A next-of-kin notification has been made, and the victim\u2019s identity is not being released at this time.<\/p>\n
Police suspect that the second vehicle involved was a white Subaru sedan with driver-side front fender damage.<\/p>\n
According to authorities, the ATV was transported back to PSP Fern Ridge and placed into evidence.<\/p>\n
This case remains open pending further investigation, police say.<\/p>\n
