{"id":3512,"date":"2025-10-15T14:52:05","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T14:52:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/3512\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T14:52:05","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T14:52:05","slug":"new-york-state-police-remind-drivers-crossing-state-lines-wont-get-you-out-of-a-ticket-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/3512\/","title":{"rendered":"New York State Police remind drivers, crossing state lines won\u2019t get you out of a ticket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">KIRKWOOD, New York (WWNY) &#8211; New York State Police are reminding drivers that fleeing to another state to avoid getting a ticket is illegal and could result in even higher charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">On Oct. 4, at approximately 5:45 a.m., a trooper observed a vehicle following another vehicle too closely on Interstate 81.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The vehicle then blew through stop signs at the bottom of the exit 1 off-ramp near State Route 11, and the intersection of the Conklin-Kirkwood Bridge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver took off at a high rate of speed, continuing to violate traffic laws, and ultimately driving to the state of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">With the help of the Pennsylvania State Police, troopers located the vehicle and identified the driver as Austin L. Darrow, 28, of New Milford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Darrow turned himself in at the New York State Police Barracks in Binghamton, where he was arrested and charged with unlawful fleeing of a police officer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Darrow was issued traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Kirkwood Town Court on Nov. 5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WWNY.
