State Police said one pilot died after two glider planes collided in the air in Edinburg, while the other pilot landed safely and was not hurt.<\/p>\n
According to police, crews found debris at about 4:54 p.m. in a remote area off Sand Lake Road in Edinburg with help from State Police Aviation, New York State Forest Rangers and the Saratoga County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
State Police said the crash site was later found with help from multiple local fire departments. The pilot, who was the only person in the aircraft, was found dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
In the original release, State Police said troopers were first called at about 2:26 p.m. to the area near Wheeler Road in Edinburg for a report of a two-aircraft collision.<\/p>\n
Investigators determined the two aircraft were glider planes, State Police said. One plane landed safely at nearby Plateau Sky Ranch Airport and that pilot was uninjured.<\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing, according to State Police. The agency said it has notified the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, and the pilot\u2019s name is not being released pending notifications.<\/p>\n
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call State Police at 518-457-6811.<\/p>\n
