Oatly and Korean-American artist and producer Yaeji are taking over a Ludlow Street storefront this Saturday and Sunday for Cafe Yaeji \u2013 a two-day immersive pop-up that’s equal parts cultural experience and coffee destination. And did we mention it’s free?<\/p>\n
The pop-up is inspired by the Korean dabang, the intimate tea and coffee houses that became beloved gathering places for generations of Korean artists, writers, and music lovers. Think of them as the original third spaces, long before that phrase became a buzzword, where creativity and community happened over a warm cup. Yaeji, whose music has long drawn on her Korean-American identity to create something entirely her own, brings that spirit to life on the Lower East Side this weekend.<\/p>\n
The centerpiece of the experience is a free Gochujang Latte created in collaboration with Yaeji herself. It’s a genuinely inventive drink that combines espresso, Oatly Barista Edition, a gochujang-vanilla base, and salted vanilla cold foam, finished with a dusting of gochugaru.<\/p>\n
The result is sweet, savory, creamy, and subtly spicy all at once; the kind of flavor combination that sounds unexpected until you taste it and wonder why nobody thought of it sooner. It’s also a perfect example of what happens when a Korean-American creative gets to put her stamp on something as ubiquitous as a latte.<\/p>\n
The pop-up runs Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 48 Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side. No tickets, no cover, just show up.<\/p>\n
Can’t make it to NYC? Starting September 21, TOUS les JOURS locations nationwide will offer their own take on the collaboration with a Gochujang Caramel Latte, available through October 31 \u2013 so the flavor gets to travel even if you can’t.<\/p>\n
