MONTREAL \u2014\u00a0Goaltender Brennan Visokey<\/a> delivered what his coach called a game-saving performance and Liam Miletich<\/a> and Zack Page<\/a> each scored three goals as the McGill Redbirds defeated the Queen’s Gaels 9-5 in Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association action at Percival Molson Stadium, Saturday.<\/p>\n The victory kept McGill undefeated at 3-0 under first-year head coach Andrew Meakes<\/a> following season-opening wins over Trent and Carleton.<\/p>\n “The player of the game today, and by far, in my opinion, the reason we won the game was our goalie, Brennan Visokey<\/a>,” Meakes said. “We’re calling him the Great Wall of Montreal right now because he stood on his head for us.”<\/p>\n Miletich, who returned from an injury that kept him out of the first two games, provided the early offence, scoring McGill’s first goal and completing his hat-trick before halftime as the Redbirds carried a 4-2 advantage into the break.<\/p>\n “It was Queen’s first game, so they had lots of video on us and we really had no video on them except for scouting from last year,” said Meakes. “Liam Miletich<\/a> was back and he came out firing. It was nice to have him in the lineup.”<\/p>\n Callum Olson<\/a> extended the lead to 5-2 in the third quarter, but Queen’s refused to go quietly. Tanner Harrison scored late in the third and again early in the fourth before Ryan Gonsalvez pulled the Gaels even at 5-5.<\/p>\n McGill also had to overcome a string of penalties, including a three-minute equipment infraction that the Redbirds killed off without surrendering a goal.<\/p>\n With the contest deadlocked, Torsten Blodgett<\/a> broke the tie at 8:03 of the fourth quarter with what proved to be the game-winner. Page then struck twice and Jack Faller added the final marker into an empty net as McGill closed out the contest with four unanswered goals. Faller, a first-year graduate student, scored against his former Gaels teammates, which also included his younger brother (Kai) in their lineup.\u00a0<\/p>\n Page finished with a game-high five points on three goals and two assists. Blodgett contributed a goal and an assist, while Olson and Faller supplied the other McGill markers.<\/p>\n Cam Milligan and Harrison scored twice apiece for Queen’s, while Gonsalvez had the other Gaels goal.<\/p>\n McGill held a 29-15 advantage in total shots, including a 17-6 margin over the middle two quarters. Visokey played all 60 minutes in the Redbirds net and was credited with the victory.<\/p>\n The Redbirds were assessed nine penalties, while Queen’s drew four infractions.<\/p>\n “It’s a good character win,” Meakes said. “We took our lumps and had some bad penalties, but the guys fought through and came back. I’m proud of them for it. Not an easy win.”<\/p>\n Queen’s (0-1) concludes their road trip at Bishop’s (0-2) on Sunday. Nous le surnommons maintenant le “Grand Mur de Montr\u00e9al”, parce qu’il a \u00e9t\u00e9 tout simplement exceptionnel devant le filet. \u00bb<\/p>\n De retour au jeu apr\u00e8s une blessure qui lui avait fait rater les deux premi\u00e8res rencontres, Miletich a donn\u00e9 le ton \u00e0 l’attaque. Il a inscrit le premier but de McGill et compl\u00e9t\u00e9 son tour du chapeau avant la mi-temps, alors que les Redbirds retraitaient au vestiaire avec une avance de 4-2.<\/p>\n \u00ab C’\u00e9tait le premier match de Queen’s, alors ils avaient beaucoup de vid\u00e9os sur nous, tandis que nous n’avions pratiquement rien sur eux, \u00e0 part nos observations de l’an dernier, a expliqu\u00e9 Meakes.
