Phil Simms didn\u2019t see this coming.<\/p>\n

Jaxson Dart has won over the legendary Giants quarterback despite his doubts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t crazy about Jaxson Dart, I will say this,\u201d Simms said on The Post\u2019s \u201cSchein Time\u201d show. \u201cHis personality, his talent, everything is much better than I expected. The throwing \u2014 he can throw with power. He has great touch if he needs that. He\u2019s a really good decision-maker.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dart was 23-for-29 passing for 230 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the rousing Week 1 win over the Cowboys to start his second season in the NFL<\/a>. The belief that he is in the midst of making a significant second-year leap is one of the biggest reasons there is newfound optimism around the Giants this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe players love him and he knows how to react and act with all the guys,\u201d Simms, who led the Giants to their first two Super Bowls, said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s just one of the reasons why when he talks, they all listen. So Jaxson Dart, man, he has been a big surprise for me, how well he\u2019s played.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simms is just as impressed with Dart\u2019s off-the-field personality as he is with his on-field traits.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually talked to him and interviewed him a couple of times,\u201d Simms said. \u201cWe\u2019ve had some good laughs and good talks and everything. And he gets it. That\u2019s the great thing about him. He\u2019s got \u2014 nobody ever said I had swagger, Adam, OK? This guy, he just \u2014 and I\u2019ll tell you, I kind of worried when [head coach] John Harbaugh took over. I said, \u2018Man, they might not like this whole Jaxson Dart thing.\u2019 But no, it\u2019s the opposite. They don\u2019t like it. They love it. Because they see he\u2019s got this personality that you want to see in your quarterback. You know, \u2018Trust me. I got it.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I think, too \u2014 and I\u2019ve heard John Harbaugh say it, you\u2019ve heard it too \u2014 he\u2019s just more talented than you think. And it\u2019s like running, he runs faster in the NFL than he did in college. When he puts it down, he\u2019s slick. He just worms \u2014 works his way through there. He is a really sneaky good runner. And the arm, it is big-time NFL. No matter what you want \u2014 accuracy, power, touch \u2014 he\u2019s got it all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beyond loving Dart, Simms believes Harbaugh and his staff are bringing the best out of him<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Offensive coordinator] Matt Nagy, man, I\u2019ll give him a lot of credit,\u201d Simms said. \u201cHe held back a lot of just what he wanted to do in the game with Jaxson Dart. And we kind of saw all that. And by that I mean they really go into the intellect of the quarterback. And I don\u2019t know if Jaxson Dart ran one play where he didn\u2019t have to check, tell everybody, \u2018Here, oh, this, that, let\u2019s go to this play,\u2019 and ready to go. I mean, it\u2019s work. And I\u2019ve heard John Harbaugh talk about it and Matt Nagy talk about it, that he can handle it all.
