A man was struck and killed by a driver going the wrong way in the Tremont section of the Bronx early Monday morning, police said.<\/p>\n
The crash happened around 5:55 a.m. near East Tremont and Park avenues.<\/p>\n
Police said their preliminary investigation shows a white car was heading north in the southbound lane of Park Avenue as it approached East Tremont Avenue. The driver struck the man and left the scene.<\/p>\n
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released his name.<\/p>\n
Abraham, who has lived in the neighborhood for five years, said the impact threw the man a considerable distance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe car was coming from over here, according to the detectives, and he got impacted on the corner and he flew all the way to over here,\u201d Abraham said. \u201cYou see, that is far.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shattered glass remained on a parked car that neighbors believe the man landed on after he was hit.<\/p>\n
Betty Stowe, who has lived in the neighborhood for seven years, said the crash is shocking to hear.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s sad. It\u2019s very, very sad,\u201d Stowe said. \u201cThese drivers out here, they\u2019re crazy. They\u2019re really crazy drivers out here.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police are looking for the white car and the person who was driving it.
