A 14-year-old boy was shot in the back and killed in a possible botched scooter robbery in Queens Monday afternoon, police and sources said.<\/p>\n
The teen was shot at about 3:40 p.m. outside of 51-24 Beach Channel Drive in Edgemere \u2013 an area residents say is a notoriously dangerous neighborhood.<\/p>\n
He was rushed by EMS to Long Island Jewish Children\u2019s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to authorities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Local Rhea Lowe said violence happens in the neighborhood \u201calmost everyday,\u201d but that today\u2019s shooting particularly worries her.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s directly across the street from a school, there\u2019s too many young people around. That\u2019s dangerous,\u201d Lowe said.<\/p>\n
Another area resident said she doesn\u2019t feel safe in the neighborhood \u2013 and didn\u2019t bat an eye over the violent crime. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not even surprised to hear about this, to be honest,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just keep praying,\u201d said another middle-aged woman in the nabe.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m a Christian because I wouldn\u2019t be able to make it without God. Because it\u2019s really getting bad out here.\u201d<\/p>\n
The trigger-happy attacker was last seen heading east on a two-wheeler on Beach 51st Street, wearing a black sweater and white shorts, cops said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Law enforcement sources said the suspect may have opened fire while stealing a scooter. <\/p>\n
