(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.news10.com\/top-stories\/new-york-moves-forward-with-landmark-ai-legislation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NEWS10<\/a>) \u2014 Governor Kathy Hochul is moving forward with implementing new requirements for artificial intelligence companies that do business in New York State.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in November, AI developers will be required to register through a state portal to prepare for compliance with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-signs-nation-leading-legislation-require-ai-frameworks-ai-frontier-models\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RAISE Act<\/a>, which takes effect on January 1, 2027.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.news10.com\/watch-news10-on-roku-fire-tv-and-apple-tv\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\tDownload our WTEN+ streaming app on Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV!\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the governor also announced the appointment of Marc Gilman, who will serve as deputy director for the RAISE Act, which is shorthand for \u201cResponsible Artificial Intelligence Safety and Education Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move is a stark contrast to the federal government\u2019s response to growing concerns over the dangers of AI. President Trump announced his administration will create an \u201cAI Force\u201d, but called fears over an AI takeover a \u201choax.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/nxslink.news10.com\/join\/6sd\/signup\" class=\"promo-link__link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\tGet the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox!\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the models are making amazing pace,\u201d University at Buffalo Professor Dr. Karthik Dantu said. \u201cIt\u2019s impacting daily life already tremendously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dantu and New York Institute of Technology Professor Dr. Robert Alexander agreed the law, which will also require companies to report \u201ccritical\u201d safety incidents to the state within 72 hours, comes at a crucial time. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of ways that AI is affecting us and impacting us,\u201d Alexander said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s going to continue to do so in ways that are almost startling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New York State Attorney General\u2019s Office will act as the lead on enforcement of the new law. <\/p>\n<p>Read the latest from NEWS10:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.news10.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NEWS10<\/a> is the Capital Region\u2019s local news leader!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ALBANY, N.Y.
