President Trump<\/a> met with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron Monday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The two world leaders discussed the wars in Iran and Ukraine during their meeting at Trump Tower<\/a> in Midtown Manhattan, according to the French president.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe decided to act together to ease tensions in the energy markets, by protecting critical infrastructure in the Middle East and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,\u201d Macron wrote on X.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will also pool our efforts to secure a moratorium on strikes against energy infrastructure and against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure,\u201d he added. \u201cCivilian populations must be protected, and we must initiate as soon as possible a serious negotiation on the conditions for peace between Russia and Ukraine.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Macron also shared a photograph and his handshake with Trump. The pair have a long history of intense<\/a>, tug-of-war handshakes<\/a> dating back to Trump\u2019s first term<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The French president told reporters after the meeting that his discussion with Trump was \u201cvery good\u201d and \u201cvery \u2060constructive,\u201d according to Reuters<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a lengthy discussion on Ukraine and Russia, the need to help our Ukrainian friends more \u200bquickly and more strongly in terms of \u200binterceptors, because that is the key issue from a defensive \u200cpoint \u2060of view,\u201d Macron said.<\/p>\n

Trump and Macron are both slated to address world leaders<\/a> and diplomats at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The president\u2019s meeting with Macron came just hours after he met with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a> at Gracie Mansion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump is also scheduled to meet with Gulf Arab leaders <\/a>on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, according to Axios.\u00a0<\/p>\n
