{"id":353294,"date":"2026-09-22T07:56:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T07:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/353294\/"},"modified":"2026-09-22T07:56:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T07:56:09","slug":"netanyahus-icc-warrant-should-be-honored-zohran-mamdani-reiterates-ahead-of-unga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/353294\/","title":{"rendered":"Netanyahu&#8217;s ICC warrant should be honored, Zohran Mamdani reiterates ahead of UNGA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani once again called for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu&#8217;s arrest warrant, issued by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-909200\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">International Criminal Court (ICC)<\/a>, to be honored, even as he acknowledged he lacks the authority to do so himself, in a CNN interview on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Mamdani told CNN that he believes Netanyahu to be &#8220;a war criminal and an architect of a horrific genocide of the Palestinian people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cI do believe that that is something that should be honored,&#8221; he told CNN, &#8220;because what we want to see, and we\u2019ve been talking about this today, is a faith in our politics, a faith in accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">He added, &#8220;If the International Criminal Court deems someone worthy of an arrest because of a violation of those laws, then who are we to say that anyone should be above that? And I think very clearly that everyone should be held accountable to it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Netanyahu is expected to visit New York City on Thursday to address the United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>His visit was originally planned to stretch several days and include a visit to Texas and a meeting with US President Donald Trump.
