Turning Stone Resort and Casino has expanded with a $400 million project that has created the largest meetings and convention space in New York state.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo see us doubling our meeting space, growing our hotel rooms, growing our amenities for our guests, it’s really exciting. It keeps each day and each year fresh for me,\u201d said Sarah Just, the director of sales and conference services at Turning Stone.<\/p>\n
She\u2019s been at the casino for the past 11 years, and says it\u2019s the innovation that she finds the most thrilling.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd really trying to deliver the best experiences to our guests,\u201d said Just.<\/p>\n
Turning Stone Resort and Casino just completed its Grand Expo. The $400 million project has added 225,000 square feet doubled to its resort\u2019s event space, which can accommodate more than 4,000 guests. This new addition puts Turning Stone on the map for people far and wide.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of our focus during the week is to help grow and bring people from a national basis, national conventions, national associations to our area, which is fantastic. And then also weekends, those are really our weddings, our galas, our social functions,\u201d said Just.<\/p>\n
Last year, Turning Stone hosted more than 1,500 events. With the new Grand Expo, the space can host double that.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd this was really an investment by the Oneida Indian Nation in the long-term future of this region,\u201d said Joel Barkin, the vice president for strategic communications and community engagement at Turning Stone.<\/p>\n
He said the latest investment is a win, not just for the casino but for the Mohawk Valley region and the Empire State.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo this year alone, we will pass on the covenant payments that we share with the state in the region from our enterprises. We will cross the $1 billion threshold in public dollars contributed to the counties and the state from our enterprises,\u201d said Barkin.<\/p>\n
Barkin says more than 90 New York businesses worked on the project. It supported thousands of construction jobs and permanent new jobs at Turning Stone. Barkin says when they\u2019re successful, the region benefits too<\/p>\n
