New York City FC<\/a> have claimed defender Matt Miazga<\/a> off waivers through the end of the 2026 season, the club announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n The 31-year-old center back was waived<\/a> by FC Cincinnati<\/a> last week, making him eligible for selection<\/p>\n Miazga was a crucial piece of Cincinnati’s ascent following his return to MLS in August 2022<\/a> from English Premier League giants Chelsea FC. He made 108 appearances for Cincinnati across all competitions and earned MLS Defender of the Year, Best XI and All-Star honors in 2023.<\/p>\n A Red Bull New York<\/a> homegrown product, Miazga will now represent the other side of the Hudson River Derby. He turned pro with RBNY in 2013, making 42 appearances for the club.<\/p>\n “We\u2019re excited to welcome Matt to New York City,” said sporting director Todd Dunivant. “Matt brings experience, mentality, and a competitive edge to our backline. His leadership will be valuable as we enter the final stretch of the season.”<\/p>\n Internationally, Miazga has earned 28 caps with the\u00a0United States<\/a>. He helped win the 2017\u00a0Concacaf Gold Cup<\/a>\u00a0and 2019-20\u00a0Concacaf Nations League<\/a>.<\/p>\n While at Chelsea, Miazga\u2019s featured primarily on loan with Vitesse (Netherlands), Anderlecht (Belgium), Alav\u00e9s (Spain), Nantes (France) and more.<\/p>\n
