The New York State Police are launching a six-day statewide traffic enforcement campaign targeting speeding and aggressive driving beginning Tuesday, September 22, and continuing through Sunday, September 27.<\/p>\n
The \u201cFall Safe Speed\u201d campaign will include increased patrols on highways across New York, with troopers also targeting distracted and impaired drivers, motorists and passengers who are not properly buckled up, and drivers who violate the state\u2019s Move Over Law.<\/p>\n
State Police will use both marked patrol vehicles and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) vehicles during the crackdown. CITE vehicles blend in with regular traffic, allowing troopers to more easily spot violations, but become clearly identifiable as emergency vehicles when their emergency lights are activated.<\/p>\n
According to the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research at the University at Albany, speeding is a contributing factor in nearly one-third of fatal crashes in New York State. In 2024, there were 315 fatal speed-related crashes statewide, while 12,232 people were injured in crashes involving speed.<\/p>\n
