HOUNSFIELD, N.Y. \u2014 An elderly woman was killed in a crash in Jefferson County, the New York State Police said.<\/p>\n
The state police identified the woman as Mary Lou Alexander, 83, of New Hartford, N.Y.<\/p>\n
The police said that on Sept. 18, around 4:49 p.m., troopers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Route 3 and County Route 66 in the Town of Hounsfield.<\/p>\n
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2016 Honda Fit driven by Alexander was traveling north on County Route 66 and attempting to cross State Route 3 onto State Route 180.<\/p>\n
Police said Alexander failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the path of a 2024 Honda CR-V driven by a 55-year-old woman from Sackets Harbor, N.Y. Alexander and the Honda collided.<\/p>\n
Alexander and the Sackets Harbor woman were taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, N.Y.<\/p>\n
Alexander was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other woman’s injuries were described as serious, but non-life-threatening.<\/p>\n
